Delivering successful rail projects depends on safe and reliable temporary works. From scaffolding and formwork to working platforms and excavations, these essential elements keep construction moving, but if not properly managed, they introduce serious risks to both safety and cost.
That’s why Network Rail has developed a robust assurance process to oversee temporary works across the UK rail network and we are proud to have been appointed Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) (Design) for a number of these projects across the UK.
Drawing on our expertise in temporary works design and our knowledge of the rigorous requirements set out by Network Rail, we have supported contractors to avoid delays and maintain safety.
The challenge

Rail projects often bring together multiple specialist disciplines. The Contractors Engineering Manager (CEM) can’t be an expert in every field, which is why they appoint a Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE). For temporary works, this means design oversight from a CRE (Design) with the technical expertise to take accountability for managing and coordinating the engineering activities, supported by specialist designers for the detailed stages.
Our approach

At Amrose, we combine technical rigour with practical know-how to make sure temporary works meet Network Rail’s strict assurance requirements — without delaying progress on site. We support clients by:
- Navigating the process – guiding projects through Network Rail’s requirements, documentation, and approvals to ensure nothing is missed.
- Providing CRE (Design) capability – appointing experienced engineers who take responsibility for the safe design and assurance of temporary works from concept to completion.
- Coordinating effectively – working closely with CEMs and ASPRO to integrate temporary works seamlessly with other disciplines and meet Network Rail’s quality expectations.
- Delivering confidence – giving contractors and clients assurance that works are safe, buildable, and compliant so that projects can move forward efficiently.
The result

With Amrose as a partner, contractors can focus on delivery knowing their temporary works are fully compliant, technically robust, and engineered for constructability. We don’t just design — we guide, coordinate and assure, so clients can progress projects with confidence.
Why it matters
Rail projects need leadership, collaboration, and deep knowledge of the assurance process. At Amrose, we bring all three to every project, ensuring safe, compliant and efficient temporary works on the UK railway.
